The qawwali is a riot. I once recited the last paragraph <how man came into existance, the woman's perspective> in a diwaali program where i was the MC. Did you manage to listen to the full song ? Isn't it hilarious ? LOL

Urdu is still alive, in Pakistan. Not in India though. The financial constraints, however, limit the poets and writers from producing any significant body of work. Most of the stuff has commercial undertones. And thats true of Hindi too. We don't have many Krishan Chandars today.

On spoken urdu, a funy incident. I remember I met this Pakistani guy at the TV station, who introduced himself, took us for lunch and then asked my husband "aap ka mash-gala ?"

My husband thought the guy was telling him there was something on his neck, so he started brushing his neck with his hand and said "thanks". After a couple of minutes the guy said "aapka mash-gala ?". My husband brushed his neck more vigorously than before and thanked him again. Ater a while, the guy quizzed again "to aapka mash-gala ?". This time happydood excused himself and went to the restroom. When he returned, he looked puzzled. And whispered in my ear "what is he saying about my 'gala' ? mere gale par to kuchh nahin hai !"

I burst out laughing and told our host my husband's dilemma.....the poor man had been asking about my husband's profession and didn't understand why his guest had been acting so bizarre....!!! (mashgala = line of work) LOL

No I haven't seen the movie. Maybe i will rent it one of these days....thanx for letting me know...
