SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore shares started the week firmer as blue chips gained ahead of Morgan Stanley Capital International's (MSCI) index rebalancing at the end of November, which has been inspiring banks, market watchers said.

The technology sector also resumed its previous upward momentum after gains by U.S. counterparts.

By 0141 GMT, the bellwether Straits Times Index was up 0.92 percent at 1,471.58 points. Turnover was a small 65 million shares.

The upward tone came after the Dow Jones industrial average, heartened by signs the year-end shopping season kicked off to a strong start, rose 1.27 percent to 9,959.71 on Friday.

The finance sector index rose 1.24 percent and index-linked counters dominated the net gainers list.

Singapore Press Holdings was the top gainer, up 1.73 percent to S$18.80. DBS Group rose 1.83 percent to S$11.10 and Singapore Airlines gained 1.53 percent to S$9.50.
