I use a 56K modem. I usually connect at about 46K. If you live in a new neighborhood and are only getting 26K, I think there's something wrong. Maybe you should have somebody from Microsoft come out and debug it.

Eventually I'll probably get DSL, but I'm not in any hurry; my access this way is cheap, and that's the way I like it.

JMHO.

David, there is one other inexpensive method to speed up your connection. You can create your own "ISDN" by taking 2 OR MORE regular phone lines and hooking them together.

1) Take any old 56K modems laying around and stick them in one computer. Get two or more regular phone lines coming into your house.
2) Your server, as long as it is not Qwest, (who are terrible) will have multisinc capability. Notify them.
3) Windows 98 and above have the multisync software built it to run two or more modems simultaneously.

IF you got 52k then you would have 104k speed total, which almost equals ISDN.

This sounds like more work than it actually is.

Dave, there's nothing confusing at all about your slow Internet connection. I understand that it's fairly common. My point was that your complaints about Linux and how long it takes to download have to be taken in that context. Is THAT confusing?

If some analyst downgraded all of the Interactive TV and streaming content companies just because his modem was too slow to handle these cutting-edge technologies, would you subscribe to his newsletter or would you say, "What an idiot" ?
