Well, I think I said as much later in my reply...

I guess we're insufficiently in disagreement once more ;-) I was thinking more of cloning embryonic cells themselves. As for reproductive cloning of adults, I see no reason for it either, and concur with the likely mental balance of both 'parent' and 'child'... I envisage Michael Jackson as prime suspect for the mindset, which is worrying.

But I suspect that if it can be done, it will be...

I, too, can't see a good "reason why we would want to go there." But, we will.

"I think that most people who would prefer a clone for a child rather than a little, unique individual would not make good parents or produce mentally heathy offspring.

I would be surprised if people who could afford the bucks to purchase a cloned child, could be less irresponsible, idiotic, narcissistic, selfish, freakish, or controlling than many parents who screw their way through life all around us. <g>

I don't know where your focus of "self cloning" comes from; but such a cloner might (or might not) exhibit a psychological profile optimistic to a healthy society.

It would seem obvious that the future of cloning will consider whether the human gene pool is being impaired or impacted. Doubtless, this is a road fraught with danger. Can you imagine people being bred to be mindless fanatics of some State's supernatural belief system? Of course, cloning such mental states of subservience and blind obedience is only a fond dream for most...

Truly, I am not up to scratch on the implications of this issue, and have no specific opinions to offer. I just thought your concern for good parents might perhaps be misplaced. Planned parenthood is generally thought to favor the development and growth of children who are (consciously) brought into the world...
