I've tried to explain why the US is sometimes, in some quarters, blamed for all the world's ills. This doesn't make you responsible - it's something that could have been addressed before, and IMO will need to be to (help) prevent similar in the future. If it's any consolation, I'd say the US bears less blame for Afghanistan than the UK for the state of NI... until recently, much less. And you make have noticed also that my concerns were over knee-jerk retaliation especially against (apparently) uninvolved countries. As it was, it seemed well-targeted. I'd have liked to see more covert troops on the ground, supporting and directing strikes - but then, I suspect the US military would have liked that too. On the recent wrongful imprisonments, certainly... in two big cases the imprisoned certainly weren't guilty of the bombings and murders they were locked away for [some were acknowledged IRA members, so may have done other things... no matter]. Of course, they were released - we're fortunate in not having the death penalty here. But neither I nor even the IRA saw fit to link bus, office and pub bombs with wrongful imprisonments - I'm disappointed that you see wrongful imprisonment as justifying terrorism and mass murder (not to mention drug dealing and extorition), but then I'm the optimistic sort. The IRA has a single, simple agenda. The union of Ulster with the counties of southern Ireland, as it theoretically was in pre-Viking times. This agenda doesn't stir many in Eire, certainly in practice. It's anathema to many in NI, especially the 25% or so who vote DUP. That's the main reason I support it, many of them on both sides are a loathesome breed especially en masse; primitive, pig-ignorant and proud of it. I figure it would serve both sides as they deserve. Lebanon writ large, and devil take the hindmost. If they want to argue over whose great^^10-grandparents had the better claim to which hovel, bad cess to them all.
