Actually, it is a book by Hermann Hesse, also known under the title "Magister Ludi". It is set in a distant future, and postulates a province in Central Europe that is devoted to learning and the preservation of the arts. The creative impulse in the arts has been largely dormant, so among these intellectuals, it finds its expression primarily in the Glass Bead Game. Its description is left vague, but the idea is of a sort of universal code in which one can put all knowledge in a sort of musical/ meditative sequence. Thus, the Glass Bead Game consists in meaningful juxtaposition of ideas and forms from various disciplines, such as architecture, poetry, philosophy, music, mathematics, etc.........
