MeDroogies,
Unfortunately my daughter is beyond the Harry Potter age. So, I have not read the book. (Or is it books?)

I do find the film trailers on TV interesting. From my limited exposure, Potter appears to be a mix of fairy tales and Merlyn the magician. Something that would appeal to a great number of young people.

I remember discovering the "Wind in the Willow" books when I was in third grade. I don't remember much about them now, except they were great to read. The animal characters were key to holding my attention. They were interesting and I liked them.

The same thing is true now. If I find a character in a book or movie interesting and likable, I almost always enjoy the story. I think children are like grown ups in that respect. Create a good character that is likable plus an interesting story line and you have Harry Potter, or maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark.<G>
