I think that is a reasonable anxiety, although it could be worse, a la Huxley. We could create clones to fulfill the functions of various social classes. Add genetic research, and we could tailor for all sort of jobs. What is now taken as a matter of the luck of the draw could be seen as an intentional imposition, and, additionally, what is overcomable by hard work or unexpected talent might become a permanent condition, as quotas are filled and genes manipulated to produce docility. Given that we know comparatively little about the interaction of genetics and environment, we might produce outcomes that are wholly unanticipated, like an isolated genius among the servile clones, building resentment and manipulating his fellows to serve as his praetorian guard. In general, it is not a good place to go........
