Tell me that you not posting that to me, with all that bolding, under the impression that I approve of it! If you are, you are entirely unfamiliar with my positions on such issues.

I can't prove that calling political dissenters "bin Laden lovers" or "traitors" or suggesting "shunning" is an attempt to intimidate them into silence. I can only say that when dissenters are intimidated into silence, it is not good for the body politic.

And I'll repeat what I said in my first post here:

The only reward for demonizing and attempting to intimidate into silence our fellow Americans is the gratification derived from expressing anger and of course from having found OBL-surrogates to scapegoat. So I just want to say that I disagree with the "dissidents," and even feel something close to hatred for some of them (not SI-ers), but defend to the death their etc... and I don't much like the flavor of this thread. I know no one cares, but it makes me feel better to say this, so I'm doing it.

Calling dissenters traitors or bin Laden lovers would be an *opinion* of some. And that *opinion* is just as open to criticism as the very opinion they deride.

The internet is one of the very few venues where freedom of expression can indeed flourish.

Really? So you have no objection to someone taking this quote from one of your own posts, parading it around SI (and anywhere else they can think of), telling everyone that you are a traitor (and therefore a bin Laden lover) given your obviously unprincipled and unwarranted attack on the actions of American leaders during war?

In my opinion it is "doubly" a cowardly act for that reason. Not only were unsuspecting, defenseless human beings slaughtered, he didn't have the "courage" to do the deed himself.

I think not. And for good reason: it would not be true.
