Jon, I've tried CPUIdle and it did not reduce the temp because SETI is CPU/memory intensive and will always use up free cycles. In fact, it increased the processing time of a work unit. The temps are well within the max spec (77C for 933Mhz P3 and 75C for 1Ghz P3) so there is no reason to worry. The electrical bill is a non-issue since the systems would be running 24/7 with or without SETI. All maintenance processes (AV scan, defrag, backup) are run after 2AM. Also scheduled are: EOD download, TS4 DB EOD data load, and various TS4 custom scans for all markets. While I sleep, they work. ;-)

SETI is just another program that gets executed so the processor type is of no concern other than the fact the P4 will run it faster. The smaller die size of the P4 should be even cooler running than the 1Ghz P3 and that is reflected in the max temp of 74C for the 2Ghz CPU. I'm curious, what is your reason for not running SETI on a P4? Perhaps there is something I overlooked.

Regards,
Nick
