I've gotten all sentimental some lately, too, and get the roll-of-the-eyes you can hear in someone's voice over the phone. Well, too bad. It's fun!

And, besides, I already got one present. The coolest slippers. The best ever. They are dark blue and a soft material (so you can curl up on the couch in them) with warm fuzzy stuff inside and a SOLE so I can run up down the stairs outside in them between the upper and lower houses.

Depression era stuff lingers. I won't buy slippers. I've never bought a pair. I have them when I get them for Xmas. I went all last year with cold feet even wearing socks. Sometimes I'd put on two pair. But then your socks get nasty and never get white again. And I've found MY SOCK, which is white tube socks. A drawer full of identical socks. Makes life simple and I always match.

I bet we all have something like the woman who wrote the column, or something we won't buy for ourselves. Like my mom can't bring herself to spend money on hotpads, but ours get nasty and dirty quick and it bugs her. She could buy a million of them, but she is always so happy when she gets a hotpad as a gift. People are wierd.
