>> I would never make fun of an expression of deeply held belief made by a friend. That would be extraordinarily rude, unkind, and disrespectful<<

And yet you suggest that referring to that belief structure as a belief in "Imaginary Friend" somehow doesn't qualify as the rude, unkind, or disrespectful. You say you've done so "many times" without offending anyone "unduly". Why would you risk offending AT ALL all by using such an euphemism which is QUITE CLEARLY in the vernacular only acceptable for small children or the insane?

Why would any have to offer "alternative terminology" for "that subset" of believers?

The notion that you feel a such a "euphemism" is somehow appropriate in and of itself betrays your prejudice.

Mrs. Peel, I would never make fun of an expression of deeply held belief made by a friend. That would be extraordinarily rude, unkind, and disrespectful.

It would be so whether the person was friend or foe.....
