That leaves only the shared bandwidth problem, which is also a problem on cable.

Well...not quite. The slowdown in cable access was a problem in very early deployment. It is solved by adding hardware to the headend. It is planned for in new systems and just a hardware problem. All that garbage you see in the "cable-hog" ads is just advertisers gone wild.

The satellite problem is different. You can't create new spectrum. I don't know the math and how many subs/area is too much but it is a problem at some point.

Also, waaaayyyy in the future (like a few years from now) we will start to get FTTH and satellites will never compete with FTTH (fiber to the home). Air to optical loss will become a factor.

I USED to have a problem with shared bandwidth slowing down the cable. No longer. Not sure what the provider did, but it's been solved for well over a year. Not only that, I sometimes have FOUR systems connected to the net within my home at one time without a noticable slowdown. Of course, we aren't downloading on all the systems during that time. Not sure what would happen if we tried to get streaming video on multiple systems within the home network on one cable connection.
