Vitesse, EMC Decline The biggest decliner in this group is Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., which makes chips for fiber-optic networking equipment, losing 80 percent. EMC Corp., the maker of data storage systems, slid 79 percent so far this year. Of the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index's 16 members, seven gained, led by National Semiconductor Corp.
