Yes, that's certainly my experience. It may be slightly different in the US - I'm not that familiar with Dell/Compaq vs DIY pricing there&#133

One problem with the pricing of major OEMs is, in my experience, that they charge exorbitant amounts for upgrades (memory comes to mind).

Don't exaggerate AMD's share (on the latter).

What's wrong with ~3:1? That's 25% for AMD, 75% for Intel. Sure, that may well be a few percentage points off, but that's why I put the "~" in front ;-).
