Rambus Barred From Patent-Infringement Suits Against Infineon

By Joyzelle Davis

Richmond, Virginia, Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Rambus Inc. will be barred from filing patent-infringement lawsuits against Infineon Technologies AG under a federal judge's order, according to Infineon's lawyers.

The decision follows U.S. District Judge Robert Payne's decision in August to uphold a Virginia jury's fraud finding against Rambus, which is battling to protect its patents for high- speed memory chips, related to the most common type of memory chip, known as SDRAM. He dropped similar charges involving chips called DDR SDRAM, which are becoming the industry standard.

Payne's ruling will protect both Infineon's SDRAM and DDR SDRAM from future legal challenges by Rambus, according to Infineon's lawyers. A spokeswoman for Rambus could not be immediately reached for comment.
