Hi Don,

It seems more likely that a choice of production process will choose labor first, Yes initially labour typically gives the best bang for the buck and designing a machine or machinery to simulate the quality of human hands is both time consuming and capital intensive. This is changing now, just as it is in software with design tools etc. Once labour costs or availability become a problem the automation becomes cost effective. Once implemented you never go back. The design tools etc. are driving down the point at which taking this plunge becomes cost effective.
