Uh, Gus, where have you been these five years? I do not think Israeli women are forbidden to be educated, forbidden to leave their homes without a male relative in attendance, forbidden to work, etc., etc., etc.

I can go on and on about male-dominated societies, but shall not. The world is progressing beyond that, wherein women are the equals of men and control their own destinies. Do not look back, look ahead. The world does not regress. This is why these archaic societies are doomed.

Hopefully it seems your pal Nadine is not "agunot"....

My husband is still alive. Thanks for your concern, Gus. It is customary in Jewish marriages in the US to make the man promise that he will give the get in the case of a divorce as part of the pre-nuptial arrangement. I don't know the details elsewhere.
