Good article. Huntington has something, although I think he underrates the way in which the forces of modernization have an historical embodiment, especially in American culture. It is no accident that American popular culture is dominant throughout the globe. So I would say that the clash is between traditional civilizations and modernity, primarily, rather than between distinctive modern civilizations. As for Belloc, I don't recall if he used the phrase. He certainly had an idea along those lines......
