The general pattern is retail buys individual equity options, while the smart money buys index options.

well, usually big money buys index options i think. I'm just guessing.

over the last 2.5 years unususally heavy put/call ratios (djx- greater than 5.0) coming on an up day in the Dow has been about a 90% accurate at calling for a lower Dow cclose within 3 sessions.
