The "State of the Domain" Year-End Report was published yesterday (jan 17th). It weighs in a 65 pages and has lots of detailed numbers and great charts, so I'm not going to paraphrase much here ... I encourage every investor to read this for themselves to understand the industry dynamics.

The report is available at no charge from snapnames.com

In brief, Verisign (#1 for the year) and Register.com (#2) continue their large net losses, and opensrs.net (ie:Tucows)(#3), GoDaddy (#10) and INWW (#5) continue to grow. These are all "net" additions, so GoDaddy and INWW are helped by not having been in business last year or at much smaller volumes (ie: less drag from non-renewals). Tucows has a large base to start with, and has still managed to show net growth ... very impressive!

How can the relative values of VRSN and TCOW be justified?
