Do you deride the person, or simply dismiss the idea?

Probably both....

There is no civil war. Get over it. It's done and gone.

Lost me here. I have no idea what you are talking about.

We protect our freedoms while fighting terrorists, or we don't and sacrifice it all to be "safe".

Wrong. We have to recognize that no "rights" are absolute even in times when we are not at war. When we are at war, we must realize that it might be necessary to make some compromises to insure that we have any rights at all. And quite frankly, those who accuse Bush of being a dictator, or Ashcroft of being a wide eyed radical fundamentalist bent on shredding the Constitution are either ignorant or partisan pinheads who care not one whit for this country.

And there is never any good reason to call someone a wrong name that derides them. It doesn't draw attention to a specific thought, but draws attention to them, and your decision to not draw a difference.

Huh? Wrong name? The "name" I use is selected to be situationally appropriate....

Are you ever "partisan"?

Of course, at times, on political matters, but not in matters which concern national security or more basic matters such as respecting the rule of law, etc....
