Dominican Republic Selects FaceIt Enabled-document Verification System for High-level National Aviation and Border Security ProgramVisionics' Business Partner Imaging Automation Awarded Contract to Supply BorderGuard System for Newly Established National Center for Classified Information
MINNETONKA, MINN. & JERSEY CITY, N.J., Nov 27, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Visionics Corporation (Nasdaq: VSNX chart, msgs), the worldwide leader in identification technologies and systems, announced today that the Dominican Republic has selected a FaceIt(R)-enabled document verification system for a key national security initiative, called the National Center for Classified Information.

Visionics business partner Imaging Automation was awarded the contract for the BorderGuard system, which enables the creation of a national data repository of security information from multiple government agencies.

Bill Thalheimer, chairman and CEO of Imaging Automation stated, "Imaging Automation's airline and border security technologies are currently deployed in more than 30 countries. With today's news, we are dramatically expanding our existing presence in the Dominican Republic, underscoring the proven reliability and success of our advanced technology in high traffic countries already using our systems. We are dedicated to offering the highest levels of identity confirmation technology and are very pleased to be partnering with Visionics as we broaden our relationship with the Dominican Republic."

BorderGuard is an automated system for rapidly scanning, analyzing, authenticating, and processing all kinds of travel and identity documents. BorderGuard is designed to read printed text, capture images, and detect forged or tampered documents by searching for document security features under five different kinds of light. It analyzes information for consistency, and compares the document's features and images with a customizable database containing document security information from many countries. BorderGuard displays its findings for further analysis by security specialists and saves captured information and images in electronic manifests for customs processing, document tracking, and legal evidence. The FaceIt(R) component allows the photo on the document to be automatically compared those in a "watch list" and alerts the authorities of any matches.

Dr. Joseph J. Atick, chairman and CEO of Visionics Corporation stated, "The use of facial recognition technology is a key component in preventing the fraudulent use of identification and travel documents. As different agencies work together in this effort, the ability to eliminate fraud quickly and accurately is paramount. FaceIt(R) has been proven in a significant number of implementations to have the accuracy and scalability required to deploy large-scale projects such as this. Our strong partnership with Imaging Automation ensures the delivery of superior systems to meet the growing market demand and we are pleased to provide these offerings to the Dominican Republic."

The use of BorderGuard will increase security at 120 points of entry within the Dominican Republic at airports, borders and seaports by helping to prevent illegal, unwanted or suspicious individuals from gaining access to an airplane or the country. Because it will be connected with the national data repository, BorderGuard will perform document authentication at the highest capability, strategically using information and biometrics to improve national security for Dominican Republic citizens and preserve the country's sovereignty.

I on having read that Buffet article all the easier i can see how SoundView can get away with such rank crap as they are exploiting investors in creating a mirage of a new great run-up by the people looking back in the rear view mirror to 19998/99 and on pure psychological emotion are thinking "o goody here we go again."Max
