Hopefully, now that Anthrax is on everyone's mind, our medical community will obtain more information about the disease and diagnose it more quickly.

I think I already heard that some company had come out with a rapid diagnostic test. The problem with some of these rapid diagnostic tests is that they have a relatively higher incidence of false positives and negatives.

Results are often called presumptive and not conclusive. The rapid result field kits are only presumptive. Always, further testing is necessary in order for the results to become conclusive. Conclusive testing takes longer but is far more accurate. One cannot believe a presumptive positive or negative until it has been verified by the lengthier and more accurate diagnostic tool. That is why everyone is automatically put on Cipro because a false negative might result in your death should you not elect to take the antibiotic.
