But what happened to fish and chips? And bangers? And all those wonderful English boiled meats?

The Fish and Chips are great. English Bangers...? Bland for my taste, but the Scottish ones are pretty tasty....and then there is Haggis...fabulous. Don't look up what's in it, but its great. Steak and Ale or Game pie; two thumbs up.

I started travelling to England on business around 10 years ago, and the food was as bad, or worse, than any joke about English food. But somewhere around then Continental [and Indian food] started moving in and the Brit population discovered that food could taste good. Then the pub business started to go down the toilet and the pubs started to figure out that they had to serve decent food or go out of business. Today the food, is quite good and I've had some of the finest dinners here that I've ever had anywhere. There's a nice Basque restaurant just a few minutes away and another rather elegant B&B where the chef used to be the personal chef of Prince Charles. Incredible food. The service is typically very good to excellent in the restaurants IMO and you rarely ever have to wait to get into a restaurant. Traditional pub service is locked in concrete; no way that's going to change. You go to the bar; get your pint; put your food order in and tell the bartender where your sitting.

I tried to find an email address for the Pope again. No luck. Ah, yes, I have to conclude he is not interested in the opinions of plebians. Probably too busy listening to God.

When you've got a direct line to divine inspiration who needs to listen to the grunts?
