Well, that was interesting. We could have used you when the thread had that discussion the first time. I don't recall our discussion being anywhere near that informed.

The first time I heard religion mocked was in twelfth grade world history class. The text, reinforced by the teacher, made the point that the pagan gods were primitive and silly as compared to the God we know now. That experience and my reaction to the mocking tone of it stuck with me. Later, once I had concluded that all superstition was primitive and silly, I pondered the irony of primitive and silly people arrogantly calling their ancestors primitive and silly. I wonder how long it will be before all the thinking of our era is considered primitive and silly. I'm sure that a certain amount of that is inevitable as humans grow more sophisticated.
