Of course, but before simply dismissing the notion consider the impact that it has had on world affairs. What is important, is that this has been a very pervasive rumor among Islamic people from all nations. It lies at the heart of the outside world's view of American foriegn policy.

American foriegn policy is seen as supportive of tyrants, and keeping middle eastern nations at each other's throats, toward the goal of a good oil economy. The theory being that as long as they are fighting with each other they present little threat to us.
