Re: "Then it became unstable and eventually would boot OK but crash after just a few minutes."
One of my Athlon systems became unstable several weeks ago after months of 24/7 operation. The machine boots and runs fine for 2-4 hours after which it crashes with a memory error (under Win2K) so I have suspected that something is warming up to a point where it isn't working properly: memory (128MB + 256MB Crucial), motherboard (Iwill KK266), or possibly the HDD (Fujitsu MPG3409A). To date, I have only tried changing the memory - trying each of the two sticks of SDRAM on its own to no avail.

I hadn't considered a possible cooling problem with the HSF (though I did but will give this a try next; the system hasn't reported any unusual CPU socket temps and I have already reduced the overvolt/overclock to no avail. Next I will try the machine with a different HDD. A further reason I suspect the HDD is that is has been making some modest "clunking" sounds on occasion and this is a little unsettling.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. I have been awaiting some additional patience/insight before seeking to resolve the problem on this computer since it is not my primary machine.
