P.B. Only two things are certain about the future:

1. We will have to contend with changing condition.
2. It is impossible to predict what those changes will be.

So the best we can do is prepare ourselves to be in a position to adapt to the changes as quickly and completely as possible. What qualities does a society need in order to be adaptable?

1. It needs to be strong - physically and spiritually.
2. It needs to be free.
3. It helps to be wealthy.

So I would argue that the best way to prepare for the future is to pursue policies which maximize those things here and now, and not waste energy and capital worrying about what might happen tomorrow.
