This does confirm that it was a CPU problem, though. While BIOS fixes are quite common to fix CPU related problems, I would have preferred more information on this. Of course, it's good that the problem was fixed quickly, but I wonder if anyone else will be affected.

I see it as equally likely that it was a chipset problem which a bios fix could easily turn off.

Probably - but the BIOS solution should also apply to fix those problems as well.

Intel's on-chip reprogrammability - and their fast response to identify and correct the "Compaq" problem - were SAVIOUR's !
