You may be right. Have you seen a press release from Intel announcing a large cache P4?

No, but it's been on the Intel roadmap since at least 1/01 (much earlier than that at Intel, but that's the earliest roadmap I have that shows it). The page that has it is called "General Purpose and Back-End Server MP Roadmap", and the chips are called, e.g., 1M iL3 1.60 GHz.
