<In Africa and Asia there are lots more whose only solution out opf poverty is technology. What abunch of fat cats you guys are!!! >

They are undoubtedly advancing centuries by our standards... quite a bit more dramatic... your term 'solution' sounds very final. It sounds like you mean starvation vs no, this is obviously different than my experience.

Remeber we are defining 'better off' as happier. :)

I soothe my fat cat's conscience by giving to charity (the time of the year again...) Two things:

I dont give much (tried to stick to 1% of my net) but I already have to hide the slips away from my wife. When you are charitable with your own money, things start to look ... different. Same thing, when your own stomach is growling.

Second, I am getting deluded by thank-you posts and invitations etc from the same charitable orgs I sent the money to to a) fight against hunger b) fight against AIDS c) fight for kids d) fight for political prisoners ...

Even my charity has become a service industry, feeding app 30% of my take to the same fat cat part of the world.

Next I will go downtown and spend for Sueddeutsche Advent charity. But then, it will be German thin cats...
