Well, you already have. But my Masters in solid state (device physics; specializing in bandgap engineered compound semiconductor devices) doesn't mean squawt if I can't explain something, or have completely lost my mind.

Try looking at as the gradient in the 'filling' -- that reduces the gradient between the effective 'plates'.
