Intel was working on technology and taking use of the ideas that were freely shared by other players. In return not only intel did not contribute to the discussion but intel also discouraged others. I am sure that a lot of amd/ibm/mot investors felt uncomfortable about actions of their companies after hearing from top dog in the field - Intel.
re: 0.18 micron. Intel could make aluminum work at 0.18 micron whereas other companies couldn't
amd is using .18 al in fab 25
re: It's not clear when Intel will move to their "depleted SOI"
my point was not about when but for how long intel was aware of commercial benefits (while stating otherwise)
re: it's gotta be a very exciting time to be involved in semiconductor fabrication development...
it's also interesting to observe it from sidelines :-))
