We are very familiar with that stretch of I-5. Every winter for the last 3 years we have passed through that part of Calif. on our way to our favorite (so far) park in Calif. called Manchester, out on the coast about 50 miles South of Mendicino, and just up the road from Pt. Arena. We go there to get away from the crowds because we are willing to go out of our way to seek solitude. Wilderness areas are our very favorite, and we are constantly on the look out for new wilderness adventures we can take......alone. If anyone has any suggestions send them my way. We usually take 6 or so weeks every winter and go exploring. I liked the McCloud River area in your link. Good luck with your future endeavor. M
