Constantine, Re: "If XPs were not selling well through OEMs then AMD would be desperate and the prices on pricewatch would be in a nosedive."

Athlon XP is a relatively new core. It would be outrageous for AMD to transition their entire fab at once, as that would present a huge risk. They probably underestimated demand, and as a result, they produced too few products. I think the 4th quarter is larger than anyone accounted for. I am seeing it in retail, I am seeing Intel claim Pentium 4 shortages, and I am seeing AMD claim Athlon XP grades selling out. Clearly, there is a huge demand, and I think AMD was underprepared. This tends to cause prices to rise, since the item in question is no longer a commodity, but a rarer find. That probably also explains the Pentium 4 SDRAM systems that you are seeing sell for over $1600. It's the Christmas season, and no one prepared for a spurt in demand.

Re: "I am a little worried when I don't see AMD represented there as it used to be. If we don't start seeing XP in the next 2 weeks I would be dumping my AMD shares since that would mean that Intel is winning the Xmas market."

I wouldn't worry much about that, either. Like I said, both AMD and Intel are selling out on some things, so I expect both to be at the high end of their estimates. For Intel, this means about $6.7 billion in revenue (or $0.12 EPS), and for AMD about $800 million (or -$0.22 EPS).

Constantine, <OEMs are building XP systems for Xmas>

That's another good one. Xmas is less than four weeks away, and you're still waiting for a flood of Athlon XP systes.

wbmw, you are confused or you are trying to confuse me. If XPs were not selling well through OEMs then AMD would be desperate and the prices on pricewatch would be in a nosedive.

I think they're probably selling just fine... I just think the supply is constrained. I think AMD is taking a measurable yield hit running at the narrow gates to get the 1800+ and 1900+. Low supply + high demand = high price + low unit sales.
