IDF says it thwarted Gaza infiltration; shots fired on Gilo

By Amos Harel and Amit Ben-Aroya, Ha'aretz Correspondents, and agencies

The IDF said Wednesday night that soldiers had thwarted an attempted infiltration by four members of Palestinian cell near the Sufa checkpoint in the southern Gaza Strip. An IDF unit detected figures attempting to cross into Israel and opened fire in their direction, injuring two of the four. The other two managed to flee the scene.

The two Palestinians wounded by IDF fire - one lightly and the other seriously - were flown by helicopter to Soroko Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

Shots were fired Wednesday night at the Gilo neighborhood in Jerusalem from the West Bank village of Beit Jala. No injuries were reported, although several apartments were damaged. The IDF returned fire. This was the third time this week that the neighborhood has come under fire.

An elite IDF unit overnight Tuesday arrested nine Palestinians suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.

Four Palestinians - an Islamic Jihad activist and his family - were apprehended in the A-Rahma neighborhood of the West Bank city of Hebron, which is under Palestinian Authority control. The other five were arrested in a village southwest of Hebron.

Security sources said one of the five was a member of Force 17, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's presidential guard. Palestinian sources reported that another of the five was a man in a wheel-chair who had been wounded during the intifada. The IDF has not yet made any official comment on the arrests.

Nadine,

Where does Palestine get their money? I looked in the CIA fact book and it does not mention them. Do they produce anything for exports? I do not see how they keep up their economy.

I suggest the American Government give Israel 48 hours to clear out the occupied territories/settlements or else we will carpet-bomb them.

The Zionists are in violation of UN Resolution 242 and 338.
