Milo, Smaller is better, up to a point. As AMD makes larger more complex CPUs they will get bigger and as they go to .13 and beyond they will get smaller.
I am not sure what the P-4 extra size buys Intel, except extra costs, it does not get performance. Possibly the deepnes of the pipeline needs that extra space???

AMD with 2 fabs has an easier job of it. the 193NM debacle that has snatched Intel's tools out of it's jaws might be a large problem or intel as the phase shift masks have had problems attributed to them yield wise, and that will hrow away the advantage of 300 MM,another AMD winning point. SOI, another winning point. Pure isotopic silicon from Isonics..another winning point.

They just keep adding up.
