I am not representing IBM in making this response. In many areas of IBM mainframes, there is multi-bit detection and multi-bit correction. My guess is that there are very few (if any) areas where single bit errors are not detected and (at least) retried. Error detection and correction capabilities are one reason people pay a premium for IBM high end servers. IMHO, reliability/availability/scalability (RAS ... S used to be serviceability) will continue to differentiate IBM HW from the competition.
