One of the reasons for the hassle at LAX is the woman who's in charge. This is not so much as an airline problem but specifically her. She's the one who has dictated the no drop offs and having to enter from the parking lots. The escalators aren't broken, they're shut down on purpose. No reason given. There's been many many complaints about the situation here. It's actually improved somewhat. It used to be that you had to park your car or get dropped off at one of the outlying parking lots two hours before the flight. This meant that people had to stand around in the hot sun for two hours waiting for their turn to board a bus to get to the airport. They changed this after the number of ambulance trips from people passing out from heat stroke. What the locals do is go to one of the hotels nearby and either take their shuttle or call one of the Super Shuttles. The shuttles and cabs are allowed to drop people off at curbside. I would encourage you to send your complaint to the LA Times. You'd have to shorten it a little to get on the letters page but it would be worth the try.
