Ali, Re: "to no avail"

This is what happens when an engineer reads a book written a couple of centuries ago. <g>

At the moment, I am running the burn-in program you suggested. It has raised the CPU socket temp to 45C which is higher than the normal high value of 41C from running RC5. For perspective, this value reached 52C during the summer but it was warmer then and the system was OC from 1.2 to 1.4 using the clock multiplier but at default Vcore.

I have updated the Bios but am not sure it is the most recent one. However, I haven't made any hardware changes recently (and will have to return the CD-ROM and floppy drive so I can run some of the tests suggested). At the moment, the system is running default BIOS settings as I decided to clear the CMOS and then set to "default" to see if it would resolve the problem.

A little more information... when the system crashes it requires a hard power off/on (using the PS switch in the back) and if I recall correctly the system will repeat the crash much more readily (within ten minutes) after a restart.

I will keep trying the suggestions posted here - systematically.

Thanks,

-PT
