4:34PM Vitesse Semi (VTSS) 11.45 -1.13: At CSFB Tech Conference, company affirms guidance for DecQ and MarQ. Mgmt sees DecQ sales as flat to slightly higher than SepQ, or $36-$40 mln, vs Multex consensus of $39.2 mln. Loss per share should be $(0.14)-$(0.11) vs consensus of $(0.13). As for MarQ, expect 10%-15% sequential sales growth, or roughly $41-$44 mln vs Multex consensus of $41.9 mln....stock at 11.53.

1:52PM Intel (INTC) 31.93 -0.38 (-1.2%): -- Update -- Goldman Sachs out with positive comments on INTC -- believes management will raise guidance on December 6 update; believes the company's prior guidance of -5% to +5% sequential revenue growth will change to a range of flat to up 7%.

9:10AM Fairchild Semi (FCS) 23.60: Company confirms guidance for Q4 revenues and remains optimistic for 2002. "While we still are guiding fourth quarter overall revenues to be flat to down five percent sequentially from the third quarter, we are encouraged by the strength in our trade sales, which should see a slight increase this quarter."

U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Rose 54,000 Last Week to 488,000 11/29 08:30

Washington, Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- The number of U.S. workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits surged last week and the total number of fired workers collecting benefits rose to the highest in 19 years, government figures showed.

First-time jobless claims increased by 54,000 to 488,000 in the week that ended Saturday, the Labor Department said. It was the first increase in five weeks. Claims fell a revised 8,000 the week before last to 434,000, previously estimated at 427,000.

The number of people continuing to draw benefits jumped to 4.018 million in the week ended Nov. 17, from 3.717 million a week earlier. The last time the number of beneficiaries was higher was the week ended Dec. 25, 1982. The increase of 301,000 in continuing claims was the largest since November 1974.
