AMD Rolls out Euro-Advertising campaign

LONDON, UK, Nov 29, 2001 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- November 29, 2001-AMD
(NYSE: AMD) today announced key advertising and sponsorship initiatives intended
to enhance AMD PC processor brand awareness among European professional and
consumer PC users, and to help end users gain a better understanding of PC
performance. The multifaceted campaign supports the world's highest performing
processor for desktop PC's, the AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor with QuantiSpeed(tm)
technology.

Dubbed "A New Kind of Fast," AMD's new advertising campaign will focus on what
consumers really care about - how well systems run their applications - and the
industry-leading performance of the AMD Athlon XP processor, rather than clock
speed alone. Representing AMD's largest-ever advertising thrust in Europe, the
campaign will embrace print and broadcast media in 17 key markets throughout
2002.

In the UK, an extensive radio campaign is underway in key cities countrywide.

The print advertising will be featured in national daily, weekly and lifestyle
publications targeting business and consumer users.

Historically, PC processors have improved both clock speed, measured in
megahertz, and instructions (work) per clock compared to older generations.

However, this is not true with some processors today, making megahertz a less
reliable measure of true PC performance. As a result, AMD created the True
Performance Initiative which aims to assist customers in understanding the
benefits of PC processor performance and to help define a new, more accurate
measure of processor performance for standard applications.

In parallel, AMD continues to reinforce its brand visibility through major
sports sponsorship programs in many European countries. Ranging from board
advertising to platinum-level sponsorship packages, the programs are expected to
further heighten AMD brand awareness in Europe. In the UK, the program targets
twelve Premier League football clubs, and the Sale Rugby Club.

"Through these advertising and sponsorship programs, we expect to enhance our
brand image and boost our customers' business by driving demand for AMD
processor-based systems," said Robert Stead, director of Marketing at AMD
Europe. "We believe these initiatives and the introduction of the AMD Athlon XP
processor family will help us and our partners continue the steady and
significant growth we've seen in Europe over the last four quarters." According
to Dataquest/Gartner Group, AMD's UK Windows-based desktop PC market share
increased by 62%, from 14.2 to 22.9% between Q3 2000 and Q3 2001.

AMD is also targeting key commercial segments in Europe. AMD recently completed
its Reseller Roadshow Program aimed at educating European system builders on why
performance matters more than megahertz. "System integrators have always been an
important segment for AMD in Europe," explained Gen Sullivan, Manager of AMD
Europe's Reseller Program. "Through training initiatives like this one, we can
ensure that they are able to effectively advise PC buyers on what matters to
them most, overall system performance and the stability of AMD's Socket A
platform." Nearly 500 system builders, infrastructure partners and AMD
authorized distributors from eight countries participated in AMD's Reseller
Roadshow Program.
