I wonder if, Oliver North-like, the execs at Enron are not spending their last precious hours in office shredding files trying to cover their own butts, rather than put some sort of deal together that salvages something for the equity-holders. Of course it would be a helpless task to shred everything and delete everything, but still they could be trying. It would not necessarily be a helpless task to salvage something for shareholders, but are they thinking about that?
