10:37am 11/29/01 H-P, Compaq combo 'makes sense': DBAB (HWP, CPQ) By Tomi Kilgore
Hewlett-Packard (HWP) is hiking 85 cents, or 4.2 percent higher, to $21.02, and is currently the leading percentage gainer among the components of the Dow Industrials ($INDU) . Analyst George Elling at Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown reiterated his "strong buy" rating on the stock following a conference call it hosted with H-P chief financial officer Bob Wayman on Wednesday. Elling believes that, following the call, H-P's proposed merger with Compaq Computer (CPQ) "makes sense," and thinks H-P may announce additional cost synergies and enhancements to revenue from the deal. Compaq is trading up 31 cents at $9.37.
