<<This whole mess is tragic, and looks like it could have been avoided.>>

Jpgill: I totally agree....I have a hunch that there may be some serious class action lawsuits against Enron's top management team (the folks that cashed in millions in options while they were NOT ethically operating the business)...The lawyers will most likely also go after 'the wealthy folks at Arthur Andersen' since they're supposed to be pretty sharp accountants...=)

I really feel for the workers at ENE who may have lost most of their retirement savings...Many will lose a job too. Here's the first notice that I have seen about lawsuits...

Less than 2 months ago I was at my 5th year grad school reunion in Ann Arbor and a friend from South America and I re-connected. He concentrated in Finance and has been a Director in Enron's Global Finance Group...He told me that the company has treated him VERY WELL since graduation and he has worked for ENE in S. America and more recently at the HQ....He mentioned no potential problems and told me the firm was actively hiring dozens of MBAs from the top programs around the country. He also told me about another classmate who has been a Director in Enron's Energy Trading Operation (i'm quite sure that this is the one that was shut down). We have another classmate who most likely won't be as impacted by the ENE meltdown since he's in Corporate Development at El Paso Energy.

A lot of Fund Managers have been burned too...

Lets hope folks become wiser after the ENE meltdown unwinds.
