Tony, RE: Chen maintained his longterm buy rating on shares of AMD, but recommended investors trim their positions.

Real dumb question, but does this mean sell now and buy back later?

Don't feel bad, Tony, Chen is speaking a foreign language.

Translation: Chen isn't quite an analyst of sufficient stature that a company returns his phone calls promptly. With a 'buy' rating on the stock, management tends to look more favorably toward an analyst and return his calls. Yet the analyst still wants to get good information to his clients, the people that ultimately pay his bills. Solution: Tell clients to sell the stock. If you're right, the clients love you. But at the same time, don't change your rating on the stock. Management still returns your calls.

I note that AMD in on the tape right now denying Chen's claim of problems with the 0.13 micron process. They reconfirmed their expectation of commercial shipments next quarter.
