Spirent Communications Leverages Intel Optics to Advance the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Market
Demonstrations of the New Adtech 10GbE UniPHY Solution at 2001 Supercomputing Conference
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2001-- Spirent Communications(TM), a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc (NYSE:SPM - news), is demonstrating the Intel-enabled 10GbE UniPHY testing module, running on Spirent's award-winning Adtech AX/4000 Broadband Test System, this week in the Spirent booth (No. 658) at the 2001 Supercomputing Conference.
The 10GbE UniPHY test solution is the industry's first test solution to implement 10GbE LAN and WAN, OC-192c Packet over SONET (PoS) and Layer 1 Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) -- on a single test module with routing emulation.
The new Intel-enabled UniPHY test module implements the current draft of the IEEE 802.3ae task force for the 10GBASE-LW and 10GBASE-LR PMDs. It allows telecommunications equipment manufacturers and their customers, the service providers, to test conformance and performance as well as routing emulation for all major protocols, including BGP-4, MPLS, IS-IS and OSPF. Together, Intel and Spirent are enabling customers to benefit from the convergence and co-existence of SONET and Ethernet, specifically in metropolitan area networks.

The new UniPHY product uses the Intel® TXN13303 multi-rate SerDes transceiver, which provides both 10GbE LAN and WAN data rates, as well as OC-192c SONET. This multi-rate optics module is essential for the UniPHY product to provide multiple transmission technologies on the same module. These transmission speeds are easily selected through the graphical user interface.
The Intel TXN13300/01/03 multi-rate line of 10Gbps SerDes transceivers is designed to support SONET/SDH, forward error correction (FEC), and 10 Gigabit Ethernet-enabled optical systems.
