After i-mode comes to Europe, competitors to KPN will follow the Dutch.

Here is why:

According to McKinsey survey: "Half of all (Asian) respondents—and even more of the high-value ones—said they would switch operators to get access to wireless data services." Source: Mckinsey

As soon as KPN mobile starts deploying i-mode, there will be churn. Users will start moving to KPN mobile in the countries it launched. This will prompt the competition to follow suit.
