The preceeding article should be of interest to Infospace shareholders because it indicates that the implementation of i-mode services outside of Japan is being pushed out further into an unknown future. As the article argues, i-mode's Japanese isolation to date has prevented it from adapting to fundamental technological shifts in the broader worldwide telecom/technology/software arena, which may have already rendered i-mode obsolete in non-Japanese markets. Remember all the hysteria last winter about how NTT DoCoMo's investment in AWE and the plan to offer i-mode services over AWE's network might impact AWE's relationship with Infospace? It's looking more and more likely that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
